Behavioral Health Intern

Behavioral Health Intern (BHI)

Location: Bradley Hospital East Providence, RI 
Department: Behavioral Health – Inpatient/Partial/Residential
Reports To: Clinical Manager / Program Director

Position Summary:
Bradley Hospital is seeking a Behavioral Health Intern (BHI) to support the care and safety of children and adolescents in a psychiatric setting. Under the supervision of clinical staff, the BHI engages with patients, supports daily routines and therapeutic activities, and helps maintain a safe and structured environment.

***Please note**** This internship is fully on-site, and will require interns to be local to RI for the year. This includes school breaks, vacations, and in between semesters. Please only apply if you plan to be in the state of RI/MA and can reliably commute to East Providence/surrounding area for at least one year. 

Scheduling: 

Interns will work per diem shifts- 3 per month minimum. One weekend shift per month required. Interns can choose shifts based on availability, day (7am-3:30) and evening (3-1130) or varied shifts available. 

 

Placement: 

Interns will be placed on units based on need, preference, and availability. We have positions open on our Inpatient Units, as well as our Residential group homes. There may be opportunities to float to other units as well. 

Candidates must be comfortable working with individuals with mental health/severe behavioral issues, Autism, and other developmental /intellectual disabilities. 

 

Training

All interns will be required to attend a 1.5 week orientation that runs from Monday- Friday of week 1, and Monday-Wednesday of week 2. Training time is 7:30am-4:00pm, interns must be able to commit to each day and full participation. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

Supervise and interact with patients to support therapeutic goals.

Assist with daily living activities and hygiene needs.

Observe, document, and report patient behavior and safety concerns.

Participate in care planning, therapy groups, and team meetings.

Support crisis de-escalation and, if necessary, assist in physical interventions.

Qualifications:

BLS Certification-obtained during training. 

Enrolled in a BA/BS or Associates program in human services, psychology, or related field.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a high-stress environment.

Physically able to assist in crisis situations and patient interventions.
