Physical Therapy Internship

This internship opportunity prepares undergraduate students to learn from and work with our talented Physical and Occupational/Hand Therapy staff. Students will be challenged and educated on the importance of patient interaction and exercise progression while in the clinic. Our goal is to invigorate and motivate students who are interested in pursuing a career in Physical or Occupational/Hand Therapy.
Students will be trained in and function as a Rehab Aide with an emphasis on education. Our Rehab Aides assist in all aspects of the clinical and administrative operation of our clinics to ensure a safe, professional environment for our patients.
Essential Functions:
- Work under the direction of a licensed therapist
- Assist clinical staff with pre/post patient care with the application of different modalities, helping patients with exercise equipment, describe and perform prescribed therapeutic exercises.
- Assist patients with the scheduling of follow up appointments.
- Assures compliance with Federal/Medicare guidelines and company compliance policies.
- Keep current with laundry and maintain adequate stock of supplies.
- Prepare patients, equipment and supplies for treatments.
- Clean, organize and maintain equipment for patient care.
- Maintain the physical environment of the facility.
Work Environment
This position works in an indoor clinic setting with direct exposure to patients. This position may require personal protective equipment. The environment is clean, and temperature controlled.
Physical Demands:
• Requires mobility, frequent walking, standing, and sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching and periodic lifting of up to 50 lbs.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to converse and hear.
• Requires normal (corrected) vision.
• Requires coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate office equipment.
The student will be assigned a therapist/instructor who will collaborate with the student to create short term and long-term goals that will be reached throughout the student’s internship. This collaboration is designed to streamline the student’s progress and growth within the clinic. The student and therapist/instructor will meet 1x/week every week for the first 6 weeks to create goals and track the student’s progress. After 6 weeks, they will meet every other week until the student’s final evaluation, which is held on the last week of the internship. Each student will be required to keep track of their weekly experiences in a log. This log is not graded but it is used as a tool to help direct the meeting and tailor it for the student’s individual goals.
