Sustainability Intern - Hybrid

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sustainability Intern is a paid, full-time, temporary role responsible for learning and applying knowledge and skills to assist members of the Sustainability team with daily and weekly project management, market research, as well as analytics around recycling, waste management, and other projects to enhance sustainability initiatives at Ocean State Job Lot. This role will be mentored by established professionals in the Energy and Sustainability fields while gaining exposure to sustainability strategy and programs in a retail environment. All interns will learn and benefit from weekly program educational experiences, as well as in-person and virtual networking opportunities. Each intern will give a final presentation to Ocean State Job Lot leadership and ownership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct market research, collect data, as well as analyze data on recycling, waste management, and other sustainability initiatives inside and outside of the Company.
  • Use project management techniques to plan, execute, as well as track progress on recycling and sustainability projects and initiatives.
  • Shadow multiple department members to gain understanding of individual roles in the department.
  • Assist with projects, programs, as well as services to execute department objectives.
  • Participate in developing department goals, objectives, and systems.
  • Acquire an understanding of the business environment, conduct, compliance, and ethics of a retail organization.
  • Effectively utilize virtual means to communicate efficiently and work independently under remote conditions.
