Heat Treating Lead

Metallurgical Solutions, Inc., an ISO 9001-2015 company, is seeking to employ an individual as a Heat Treating Lead, a frontline supervisory position. A description of this position and the desired attributes for a successful applicant are provided below.

Position Responsibilities
·        Control heat treating furnaces, salt baths and quenching equipment to alter physical and chemical properties of metal components using specifications and methods of controlled heating and cooling (hardening, tempering, annealing, stress relieving and normalizing).
·        Determines temperatures and time of heating cycles, type and temperatures of baths and quenching medium to attain specified hardness, toughness, and ductility of components, using standard heating charts, and utilizing knowledge of heat-treating methods, equipment, and properties of metals.
·        Adjusts furnace controls and observes temperature measurement instrumentation to bring furnaces to prescribed temperatures. Calibrates Rayo-tube temperature control instrument on high heat salt bath furnace using thermo-coupled temperature measurement devices.
·        Loads parts into furnaces and baths; removes parts after prescribed time and quenches parts into oil, water, brine, molten salt or allows parts to cool in air.
·        Tests hardness of heat-treated parts or components.
·        Supervises and instructs Heat Treater Helpers when and where needed.
·        Supervise and coordinate workers engaged in hardening, tempering, annealing and  
other heat treatment processes for the purposes of conditioning metal work pieces.
·        Applies knowledge of heat-treating processes used to produce required properties in various metals.
·        Estimates, requisitions, and inspects materials related to and used in routine day-to-day operation of a commercial heat treatment facility.
·        Confers with other supervisory personnel to coordinate activities of individual departments.
·        Engages with workers to resolve Production and Quality-related problems and issues.
·        Assists in the training of workers, as required, emphasizing efficient, productive work habits and organizational skills.
·        Ensures that heat treating work is performed under the auspices of MSI’s Quality Management System (QMS), in accordance with ISO 9001-2015.
 
Background
·        Applicant will have a High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) credential.
·        Experience working in commercial heat treating, captive heat treating, metal finishing, or manufacturing desired. In lieu of heat-treating experience, a successful applicant will undergo a rigorous three-to-six-month in-house training program, designed to focus on developing safe heat-treating skills, production / quality awareness and customer satisfaction.
·        Desired Skill Set - Familiarity with just-in-time manufacturing concepts, customer production through-put needs, and an efficient managing of a work force through the use of frontline supervision.  
 
Compensation / Benefits
·        Starting pay - $ 16.00 / hour, with a performance review after a 90-day 
           probationary period. After this probationary period, annual reviews  
           are conducted on an employee’s work anniversary date.
